June 21 – Dutch Architecture Day in Rotterdam

It was a pretty rainy and overcast day but we still decided to go to Rotterdam to check out the 24HR architecture event in the Shell building, an annual event here in Rotterdam that showcases architecture and design projects on each floor of this vacant office building. First we walked around the city for a bit and managed to find a few of the sights on our ‘to-do’ list, including the Erasmus Bridge by UN Studio and the Cube Houses by Piet Blom. There were a number of fun and interesting installations in the 24Hoofpoort building but we spent the majority of our time waiting for the elevator since you couldn’t use the stairs to go between floors. This wasn’t the first time we’ve become aware of the differences in building codes and regulations between the Netherlands and the US!
